Winter Bingo Fun, MHRN Center

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Each January, on the Sunday afternoon right before Martin Luther King School holiday, for the past 7 years, Anchor hosted winter bingo fun for the residents of Monument Hill Rehab and Nursing Center.  This year was no exception!!  Twelve Anchors were able to conduct the bingo games and serve some great cookies (baked by Anchors) and sherbet and ginger ale floats (provided by MzR).  There were 19 residents who enjoyed the games as well as several residents who were quite familiar with the tasty treats always provided by Anchors.  And, winners received $ .50 per game for their winning efforts!!

Anchors set up the dining room, pulled out the equipment, pushed the wheel chair bound residents from their rooms to the dining area and just generally had great one on one time with the elderly and very grateful participants

Several of the residents who have been in the nursing center since this project began six years ago, still participate, and were very happy to share the afternoon with us.  To see

the progression of their illness, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease is saddening.  However, most still have a very pleasant disposition and are absolutely thrilled that Anchor teens have taken the time to be with them on a Sunday afternoon – not necessarily to play bingo, but to just visit and share time!
