The Holiday Luncheon

Sponsored by the Columbus, Texas Church Women’s Group

Benefiting the Youth & Family Services Agency

Saturday, November 6, 2010

The La Grange Anchor Club again lent a helping hand for the Holiday Luncheon benefiting the Youth and Family Services Agency of Central Texas.  Anchors provided 250 table favors, which were packets of gourmet hot chocolate, and then actually helped with the serving duties for the luncheon.  Anchors also assisted with the various raffle and auction activities.

The Youth and Family Services agency operates strictly on private donations and state and federal grants, enabling it to maintain an office and professional staff that serves several rural counties in Central Texas.  Of utmost importance, is that the agency specifically aids those who suffer from the brain-related disorder:  chemical and alcohol dependency.

YFS works with many families that are in crisis, in abusive situations, and in need of support and assistance.  The agency provides professional counseling, and an environment of learning, support, guidance, and the feeling of belonging to a community.

This project provides a unique opportunity for Anchor visibility in more than just the town of La Grange.  Visibility was an important consideration in deciding that Anchors would participate in this project; each year, Brenda Rainosek, who is a member of the Board of Directors for Youth and Family Services, is asked for Anchor help at this fun event.  Anchors always feel like Christmas is just around the corner when they leave the luncheon, tired but having been complimented generously on their skill and great personalities . . . and also having had a pretty good lunch!

The “2010 Trees of Light . . . The Jesse Tree Year” project was quite successful, too, when it came to dollars being raised.  $30,000 was given to YFS as a result of great luncheon ticket sales, Christmas market sales, and the Silent and Live auctions.
